Ivey "most popular" man in poker

2008-05-20 16:22:46

Phil Ivey is liked more than any other player in the sport of poker, it has been claimed.

Matt Savage, a noted tournament director, made clear his beliefs in an article for Poker News.

"Phil Ivey has become the game's most popular and idolized player," he commented, adding that he is "today's biggest poker celebrity".

Mr Savage even said Ivey is bigger than the man Bluff magazine calls the most influential in the game, Doyle Brunson, and 11-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder Phil Hellmuth.

Ivey has won a number of accolades in his career, including five WSOP bracelets and a World Poker Tour (WPT) title.

He holds the record for reaching the most WPT final tables at eight and has been called the greatest live tournament player on the planet on numerous occasions.

Ivey currently lies sixth on the all-time money list, having earned $9.77 million during his career.
