'Best chance yet' to win a WSOP bracelet

2008-05-29 16:12:29

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) begins at the Rio All-Suite Casino Resort in Las Vegas tomorrow and organizers are claiming there has never been a better year for someone to win a coveted WSOP bracelet.

Jeffrey Pollack, the poker extravaganza's commissioner, said "the WSOP stage has never been brighter".

"If you've dreamed of becoming a WSOP champion, this is the year to enter," he remarked, referring to the 55 tournaments ranging from $1,500 buy-ins all the way up to $50,000.

The $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Hold'em competition will get proceedings underway on Friday and many of the top players in the world have already said they are likely to be at the event.

These include Issac Haxton, Dan Stern, Roy Winston and Shannon Shorr, who have all written about the possibility in blogs for, or syndicated by, Card Player magazine.

Last year's event one winner was Steve Billirakis, who took $536,287.
