Nenad Medic won event one of the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) yesterday, earning himself $794,112 and the first bracelet of his career.
The Canadian player defeated Andy Bloch in the heads-up of the $10,000 World Championship Pot-Limit Hold'em tournament, after the two survived the more than 300-strong field.
"It was a tough field, the whole tournament, all the way to the final table," he commented afterwards.
The majority of the world's greatest players entered the competition, with every table packed with several notable names.
Illustrating the quality of the field was the final table, which featured bracelet holders Kathy Liebert and Mike Sexton, as well as World Poker Tour titlist Phil Laak and European Poker Tour event winner Patrik Antonius.
Liebert and Sexton finished third and fourth respectively, while Ami Makhija was fifth.
Chris Bell was sixth, followed by Antonius, Mike Sowers and Laak.
With the victory, Medic moved into 17th position in Card Player's play of the year rankings.
