Hinkle takes down WSOP event two

2008-06-04 15:12:54

The second bracelet of the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) has been awarded to Grant Hinkle.

Hinkle drew quad fours to defeat James Akenhead in the last hand of the heads-up, earning him $831,462 in prize money.

The unheralded player has never won a major competition before and he picked a massive one to take his first title.

A field of 3,929 took part in the $1,500 no-limit hold'em competition, a new world record.

For a time it looked like Chris "Jesus" Ferguson was about to further establish his credentials as an all-time great by winning a sixth WSOP bracelet, but instead he finished third.

Theo Tran was fourth, followed by Mike Ngo, Aaron Coulthard, Mevlin Jones, David Bach and Joe Rutledge.

Akenhead won $520,219 for second, while Ferguson took $388,287 for third.

The next WSOP bracelet winners will be decided tomorrow when events three and four reach their conclusion.

Among those in the hunt are Joe Tehan, David Singer, Erick Lindgren and Roland De Wolfe.
