Gus Hansen claims the reason why he did not play any poker at the World Series over the weekend was because he injured his knee playing tennis.
The Scandinavian, who is a member of the World Poker Tour hall of fame, told readers of his blog that the knock put him in bad mood and suggested it would not be a good idea for him to play cards in that frame of mind.
"My mood dropped considerably and I ended up staying home instead of playing the stud championship," he remarked.
"It was most definitely the right decision."
Hansen was a top tennis player in his youth and plays the sport regularly as a hobby.
In this regard he is similar to Finnish poker professional Patrik Antonius, who also had a tennis career when he was younger and spent several years coaching the game.
Hansen and Atonius are sponsored by the same poker website.
