Minieri takes down WSOP event 31

2008-06-19 14:44:07

Dario Minieri is now a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder after victory in event 31 last night.

The Italian online superstar outlasted his five final day competitors to win the $2,500 no-limit hold'em/six-handed competition.

Seth Fischer was the last person to stand in Minieri's way, but was eventually eliminated when he went all-in with king-ten suited and it failed to improve against his opponent's pair of queens.

Minieri received $528,418 for the triumph and will no doubt be feeling fairly smug after comments made about it him in Gus Hansen's blog earlier in the week.

Hansen, who has never won a WSOP title himself, implied that Minieri played too aggressively to take down a major poker competition.

The Roman's WSOP bracelet will likely be the first of many, as the high-stakes specialist has already impressed greatly on the European Poker Tour and looks like being at the top of the sport for many years to come.
