Ruthenberg beats Ferguson to WSOP bracelet

2008-06-20 15:45:54

Sebastian Ruthenberg has won the first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet of his career - and denied heads-up opponent Chris Ferguson his sixth.

The German won the World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better competition after an epic heads-up, which at times saw Ferguson just a stroke of luck away from victory.

Had Ferguson won he would have become only the tenth man in history to hold six bracelets and joined TJ Cloutier, Men Nguyen and Jay Heimowitz who have all achieved the total.

Robert Lauria finished third in the tournament, ahead of two superstars of the poker circuit Marcel Luske and Annie Duke.

Behind them was Allesio Isaia in sixth, Steve Sung and Robert Beveridge.

After being eliminated, Duke and Ferguson continued their good form in another poker tournament, where they made it through to the second day of action despite being exhausted from playing all night.
