Velador receives $574k for WSOP win

2008-06-20 15:47:24

Luis Velador is $574,724 richer today after taking down event 32 of the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

Velador, from Lake Elsinore, defeated Anthony Signore in the heads-up to win the $1,500 no-limit hold'em crown.

Signore went all-in with ace-six but was left needing a lot of help when Velador called with a superior ace-seven.

An ace and seven on the flop gave Velador two-pair and Signore was drawing dead on the river where a six was no use to him.

He received $366,387 for second place, but may feel like he should have done better, having been equal to Velador in the chip count at one stage.

Osmin Dardon was third, ahead of Jae Chung, Shane Stacey and Dean Bui.

Dany Georges, Utsab Saha and Justin Hoffman made up the remaining final table places.

In other WSOP news, Ted Forrest is a strong contender to win his sixth bracelet in event 34 tonight.
