Halfrek's OPOY lead cut in half

2008-06-24 15:10:27

Anonymous Scandinavian poker star Halfrek has had his lead in Card Player's online player of the year (OPOY) race cut in half.

Brian "SNo0oWMAN" Hawkins received more than 200 points in a tournament on Sunday to take his overall total to 4,320 - just 248 behind Halfrek.

It was the first sizable movement in the OPOY competition for several weeks, as the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas has been capturing most players' attentions.

Hawkins is among the competitors to have been seen at the poker extravaganza, along with other top 20 players Brent "Bhanks11" Hanks, Matt "plattsburgh" Vengrin and Tim "Tmay420" West.

Philip "USCphildo" Collins, another WSOP participant, lies in third - 602 points behind Hawkins - with Isaac "westmenloAA" Baron in fourth.

Baron is the reigning OPOY champion but he has not been seen at the WSOP so far this year as he is still too young to play live tournament poker in Las Vegas.
