WSOP Seniors victory for Lacourse

2008-06-26 15:29:43

Dan Lacourse seized the first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet of his career last night in the $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em World Championship event.

The over-50 beat Dale Eberle in heads-up play to take the title and a cheque worth $368,759.

Marc Fluss was third, ahead of Jerry Yamachika and Fred Berger.

Charles Wood, Peter Silverstein, Ed Clark and "Mad" Marty Wilson took up the remaining final table places.

Lacourse became champion after moving all-in with the board reading nine, nine, king, two.

Eberle called and Lacourse flipped over nine-seven, giving him a huge advantage over his opponent's king-four.

Another king would not come on the river to save Eberle and he was eliminated in second place. He earned $131,194 for his troubles.

More than 2,200 competitors took part in the WSOP Seniors competition, setting a new record.

Ten-time WSOP bracelet holder Johnny Chan was among the famous faces who entered on day one.
