Fifth WSOP bracelet for Scotty Nguyen

2008-06-30 15:42:45

Scotty Nguyen has become only the 18th person in history to win a fifth World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet.

The Vietnamese-American, renowned for his bluffing abilities, took down the $50,000 HORSE World Championship by beating Michael DeMichele in heads-up play.

For the victory he earned $1,989,120 and the Chip Reese trophy, which will be given to every person who wins the HORSE event from this year onwards.

Nguyen had to outlast a star-studded final table to win bracelet number five.

Two-time World Poker Tour event winner Erick Lindgren, who won his first WSOP title earlier this year, finished in third place, ahead of fellow luminaries Matt Glantz, Lyle Berman, Barry Greenstein and Huck Seed.

Partick Bueno was the first person to be eliminated on the last day.

Nguyen's tally of five bracelets puts him alongside some of the greats of the game, including Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Stu Ungar, Ted Forrest and Allen Cunningham.
