WSOP bracelet for Daneshgar

2008-07-03 14:02:50

David Daneshgar has become a World Series of Poker (WSOP) champion for the first time in his career.

The Californian took down event 52, a $1,500 no-limit hold'em competition, by beating Scott Sitron in heads-up play.

In the last hand of the tournament, Sitron pushed all-in before the flop with ace-eight, a move which was called by Daneshgar with a pair of tens.

No aces or eights came on the board for Sitron and Daneshgar's hole cards took him to victory.

For the win, the relatively unheralded player received $625,443.

Dan Heimiller was knocked out in third position, preceded by Farzad Rouhani.

Rouhani had been looking to emulate John Phan's feat by winning two bracelets at this year's WSOP.

Behind Rouhani were Corwin Cole, Matt Maros and Andrey Zaichenko, with Jeff Courney and Voita Rintala taking up the remaining final table places.

There is only one more WSOP tournament left before the main event gets underway tonight.
