2008-07-10 15:51:56

Phil Hellmuth is through to day three of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event after successfully navigating day 2b last night.

The Poker Brat, who is hunting his second victory in poker's most prestigious tournament, made his progression along with great rival Johnny Chan.

Chan was denied a third consecutive WSOP main event win by Hellmuth in 1989 and had his record of ten WSOP bracelets eclipsed by the Californian last year, when he notched up his 11th.

Both players will be desperate to win this year's competition, although plenty of other top professionals will be joining them on day three.

Mike Matusow and Gus Hansen both made it through, while Chau Giang, Hoyt Corkins and Patrik Antonius will also be there after it progressing from day 2a.

Brain Scheadlich is the overnight chip leader, with Alex Outhred, David Rheem and Brandon Adams in the chasing pack.
