WPT success for online pro

2008-07-18 14:10:53

Online star Mike Watson announced his arrival on the live-action poker scene by securing victory in the Bellagio Cup IV on Friday.

His success in the World Poker Tour (WPT) event in Las Vegas earned him more than $1.6 million - ten times his previous career live-action winnings.

Watson had to get the better of several prominent professionals at the final table, including David Benyamine, who lost out in the heads-up.

Benyamine took home $840,295, while Luke Staudenmaier - the man better known by his online username IWEARGOGGLES - collected $452,465 for this third-place finish.

Ralph Perry took fourth and the top six was completed by John Phan and Gabriel Thaler.

The Bellagio Cup was the second WPT event of season seven, following May's Spanish Championship. The Barcelona tournament was won by Denmark's Casper Hansen, who collected a prize worth more than $500,000 after defeating Stefan Mattsson in the heads-up.
