Watson: Heads-up with Benyamine wasn't ideal

2008-07-22 15:30:36

Mike Watson has revealed that he would rather not have played David Benyamine in the heads-up of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Bellagio Cup IV event, which he won last week.

The online professional, known commonly as SirWatts, told Card Player magazine that he respects Benyamine's skills as a player and suggested he felt the Frenchman was the strongest competitor taking part in the nine-man final table.

Benyamine has proven himself to be in good form in recent weeks, finishing fifth in the World Series of Poker player of the year rankings after winning his first bracelet.

He was also looking to clinch the second WPT title of his career, which would have drawn him level with the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Erick Lindgren in the trophy count.

Watson commented: "He's very tough; he's not a guy I wanted to play heads-up.

"I wouldn't have felt like I had a decent chance against anyone, especially David, who was a very tough opponent."
