Brunson speaks about legendary card game

2008-07-23 15:31:15

Ten-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder Doyle Brunson has disputed claims by author Des Wilson that the famous five-month poker game between Nick "The Greek" Dandolos and Johnny Moss did not take place.

The Texas Dolly claimed in his blog that he spoke to Benny Binion's son Jack about the matter, with the casino heir confirming that the match - said to have been set up by his father - did happen in 1949.

Dandolos allegedly lost $4 million in the encounter and apparently uttered the legendary quote "Mr Moss, I have to let you go" before quitting.

Mr Wilson wrote in his Ghosts at the Table book that there is no evidence that the match happened, leading to Brunson commenting: "Des wrote a good, entertaining book but no one can always be right about what happened in the past."

Moss is considered to be one of the greatest poker players of all time and holds nine WSOP bracelets, as well as being one of only two men to have won the main event on three occasions.
