Bruce: Getting internet sponsorship isn't easy

2008-07-29 15:04:41

Even for successful poker players, getting a sponsorship deal from a major website is difficult to achieve.

This is the opinion of Chris Bruce, a well-respected Scottish competitor, who told Poker News that there is little chance of him being picked up by an internet gaming company.

"Poker sites need exposure and they are going to get far more of that from an ex-sportsman […] or celebrity," he remarked.

Bruce suggested that there are plenty of people out there right now who are good enough to be sponsored, but just are not able to attract the same degree of interest.

Abi Titmuss, Shane Warne and Boris Becker are just a few famous faces to have gotten sponsorship from poker websites in recent months, while Steve Davis and Scott Ian of Anthrax have also done deals.

Davis and Warne showed their cards skills with deep runs in the World Series of Poker main event this year, while Titmuss was infamously knocked out of the Ante Up For Africa competition in less than an hour.
