Changes needed to be made to the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in order to give the sport a lift, according to Alan Bowden.
The editor of InsidePoker Magazine suggested that modifications were certainly necessary for future prosperity, although nobody can know for sure whether moving the final table of the main event to November will give poker the boost it requires.
"To take poker to the next level they need to try something different and this is what they've chosen this year," he remarked.
Mr Bowden added that if it is successful, it is possible that another Moneymaker-style effect could take place.
The Moneymaker effect is the term given to poker's boom period which took place following Chris Moneymaker's victory in the 2003 WSOP main event.
Millions of people were apparently inspired to take up playing cards by the American amateur, who qualified for the championship through a $39 buy-in tournament online.
