Million-dollar winner feels he's arrived

2008-08-04 17:17:45

Mike "SirWatts" Watson recently stated that he finally felt he had achieved "every tournament poker player's goal" after winning the Bellagio Cup.

In an interview with Card Player, Watson said that his overall goal was to achieve a six-figure win, but conceded that he had far exceeded his own expectations.

The $1.6 million winner has had a steady run of success in online games over the past two years, earning around $300,000 in 2008 alone.

He stated: "It’s amazing … I always kind of believed I’d get there, that if I kept playing these tournaments, I’d eventually get lucky and be able to win one."

Watson saw off David Benyamine in a nail-biting final hand at the Bellagio Cup's main event last month to claim the victory.

At the final table, the 24-year-old started as the chip leader with over five million, closely followed by his heads-up opponent Benyamine on 4,860,000.
