Celebrities 'won't get as much attention from serious poker players'

Serious poker players are much more likely to lavish their attention upon well-respected professionals as opposed to celebrities, should they be drawn next to them in a poker tournament.

This is the belief of Alan Bowden, a spokesman for InsidePoker Magazine, who suggested that snooker star Steve Davis is less likely to turn heads at major poker events than elite competitors such as Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson.

"I think they're more in awe of the players who regularly win millions year in, year out by playing poker," he stated.

Davis outlasted the majority of the participants in the World Series of Poker main event this year, including top professionals such as Shannon Shorr and Jonathan Little.

However, he did not manage to make it as far as Hellmuth or fellow luminary Mike Matusow, who both netted finishes inside the top 100.

It was the second time in his career that the Nugget had managed to cash in poker's richest competition.
