Channing admits Irish Poker Open luck

2008-08-06 15:41:33

Neil Channing has conceded that he did get a helping hand from Lady Luck at the final table of the Irish Poker Open this year.

The Londoner, who went on to the win the competition and more than $1 million in prize money, told Poker News he benefited from good fortune on more than one occasion.

"I got lucky against two people, I raised and pot committed myself and both times I was behind and both times I hit," he said.

Nevertheless, Channing did not claim he was lucky to win the competition outright, suggesting that he played well and that his tactics were successful.

Channing is considered to be one of the UK's best poker competitors and has enjoyed an excellent 2008 so far, which has seen him earn seven cash finishes at the World Series of Poker.

He currently lies 55th in Card Player's player of the year competition.
