Fossilman makes it through LAPT Uruguay day one

2008-08-08 16:44:02

Greg 'Fossilman' Raymer has made it through to day two of the Latin American Poker Tour (LAPT) Uruguay tournament.

The 2004 World Series of Poker main event champion, who is renowned for his passion for animal relics, progressed from day one along with the likes of Humberto Brenes and Vanessa Rousso.

Raymer is chasing a share of $851,175, but it is possible that money might not be the only thing on his mind during his stay in South America.

The former patent attorney, 44, may be interested in the giant, four million-year-old rodent fossil which was dug up in the country back in January, according to the Associated Press.

One of Raymer's most famous quirks is that he uses a fossilised animal bone to protect his cards while playing.

The chances of him using the recovered skull of a Josephoartigasia monesi seem unlikely, however, with the creature fossil discovered in Uruguay a whopping 20 inches long.
