Stars gear up for APT Macau

2008-08-26 15:34:17

The Macau leg of the Asian Poker Tour (APT) begins tomorrow, with a host of famous faces set to take part.

While the majority of the world's best known card sharps have been competing in the World Poker Tour Legends of Poker event, APT Macau has still managed to attract several stars, including Doyle Brunson, Todd Brunson, David Saab and JC Tran.

There will be a celebrity feel to the occasion, with Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao scheduled to compete in a preliminary charity tournament alongside a raft of other Asian A-listers.

The APT ran its first tournament in Manila at the end of May, with Saab coming out on top.

He won $280,000 in prize money, a figure which looks set to be eclipsed this week with the APT's organisers predicting a record-breaking crowd.

Macau is the world's richest gambling destination, having overtaken Las Vegas in the past three years.
