Sabat takes down APPT Macau

2008-09-08 12:00:45

American Eddie Sabat picked up the first big poker title of his career over the weekend with victory in the Asia Pacific Poker Tour event in Macau.

The 22-year-old was among the leaders throughout the competition and entered the final table in second place in the chip count.

He eventually prevailed by defeating Malaysia's Charles Chua in the heads-up when his two-pair of queens and threes bested his opponent's straight draw.

Sabat received just over $453,000 for the win, which is several times more than the rest of his career live tournament winnings combined.

In other major successes over the weekend, Alain Roy won the Partouche Poker Tour main event in Cannes, picking up just over $1.4 million for his troubles.

Roy beat Claudio Rinaldi in the heads-up after outlasting the rest of a star-studded field, which included big names such as Gus Hansen, Raul Paez, Scotty Nugyen and Michael Mizrachi.
