Tomgus456 makes OPOY surge

Internet poker competitor tomgus456 rocketed up Card Player's online player of the year (OPOY) rankings this week after taking down a major re-buys tournament.

The online star received 480 points for his victory on Sunday, leaving him in 12th place overall with a total of 4,284.

He is now 140 points behind 11th-placed Luke 'IWEARGOGGLES' Staudenmaier, who has also enjoyed some big scores in recent days.

Brian 'SNo0oWMAN' Hawkins remains at the top of the table with 5,906 points, having led for several months.

However, if the OPOY competition goes anything like the live tournament player of the year race, he could soon be overtaken.

Erik Seidel demonstrated that even leads of more than a thousand points do not make a card sharp safe when John 'Razor' Phan overhauled his advantage with a World Poker Tour victory last month.
