World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open kicks off

Events are well underway at the World Poker Tour Borgata Poker Open.

The tournament, which began on September 14th and will continue until September 18th, has a total prize pool of $5 million.

A recap of the first day's action by Julio Rodriguez of cardplayer.com revealed that while the Borgata Poker Open needed 521 players to avoid an overlay, a registration scramble led to a field of 516 players - meaning the event now has a $50,000 overlay.

Mr Rodriguez suggested that the Sunday starting day led to a "considerably smaller" number of online players than are often seen at such events.

The buy-in for the competition was $9,600 plus $400, with starting stacks of 40,000 chips.

By the end of the first day, some 310 players remained in the game and will resume play on September 15th. Top players at the end of Sunday's competition include Onofrio Reina with 256,000 chips and Brandon Cantu, with a total of 182,000.

The first-prize winner will walk away from the event with $1.425 million, while second place will be awarded with $750,000 and third prize will total $387,500.
