Hougaard takes down WSOP Europe event one

2008-09-23 12:05:28

Jesper Hougaard picked up the first bracelet of this year's World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe last night, defeating Fuad Serhan in the heads-up to take down event one at the Casino at the Empire in London's Leicester Square.

The Danish professional received £144,218 ($267,513) for the victory to take his winnings for the year above the $900,000 mark.

It is the second time in his career that he has won a WSOP title, following on from his triumph in event 36 of the 2008 WSOP in Las Vegas.

He currently lies 23rd in Card Player's player of the year (POY) competition.

Asian Poker Tour Macau champion Yevgeniy Timoshenko finished third, ahead of the 2008 Irish Poker Open winner Neil Channing, who was playing in front of his home crowd. He moved to 35th in the POY race.

John Dwyer, Adam Junglen, Linda Lee, Ian Woodley and Daniel Nutt rounded out the top nine.
