Jorgensen wins WSOP Europe event three

2008-09-29 11:57:50

Theo Jorgensen picked up the first gold bracelet of his career on Friday in event three of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe.

The Danish competitor defeated internet superstar Sorel Mizzi in the heads-up to take the title and £218,626 ($402,270) first-place prize.

Jorgensen was the chip leader going into the final table but still had some formidable competition to overcome.

As well as Mizzi, Max Pescatori, Jason Mercier and Chris Ferguson remained in the tournament heading into the last day, with the latter seeking bracelet number six.

None of these players were able to make it inside the top four, however, with Eric Dalby finishing in third place, followed by Erik Friberg, Pescatori, David Penly, Ferguson, Mercier and Tommy Nyback.

Ferguson currently lies in 40th position in Card Player's player of the year rankings, but he looks set to move up once his score from event three has been added to his total.
