Smith and Negreanu battle it out for WSOP Europe lead

2008-10-01 12:03:03

Justin Smith and Daniel Negreanu both fought hard to be the leader in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Europe main event yesterday, with the former marginally coming out on top.

The chip counts from Poker News show the man known as BoostedJ with 650,000 chips in his stack, giving him a slight advantage of 40,000 over Negreanu in second.

John Juanda is a further 130,000 chips back in third, with Johnny Lodden (412,000) and Bengt Sonnert (410,000) rounding out the top five.

There are 24 players remaining in the competition, with Ivan Demidov, Brandon Adams, Andy Bloch, Erik Seidel and Mike Matusow among the other luminaries set to return to battle it out for a final table place.

Chris 'Moorman1' Moorman, Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, Ross Boatman, Ted Lawson and Victoria Coren all went to the rail on day three at the Casino at the Empire in London's Leicester Square.

Commenting on the tournament on his Full Contact Poker blog, Negreanu remarked: "Very happy with my play, but the tough part is about to begin."
