Tran on top after day 1a of North American Poker Championship

2008-10-13 12:06:29

JC Tran finished day 1a of the World Poker Tour (WPT) North American Poker Championship as the chip leader.

The Vietnamese-American, who is chasing his second WPT title, will carry a chip stack of 159,300 with him through to day two, while John Mori, Christian Harder, Dario D'Agostino, Brian England, Matt Matros, David Scott and Robert Robbins will all take more than 100,000.

Erik Seidel was arguably the biggest name to progress to the next stage. He ended day 1a with a slightly below average stack of 71,800 as he hunts his second WPT crown of 2008.

Victory for Seidel would probably put him back in the lead in Card Player's player of the year race, in which he currently lies second behind John Phan.

Other famous faces to make it through include Gavin Smith, Roy Winston and Luke Staudenmaier, while Annette Obrestad, Chad Brown and Nenad Medic were among those to go to the rail.
