North American Poker Championship led by Gavin Smith

2008-10-14 12:12:55

Gavin Smith took the lead on day two of the World Poker Tour (WPT) North American Poker Championship.

The 2005 Mirage Poker Showdown champion will take a stack of 405,900 chips with him through to day three - 22,100 more than second-placed Matt Matros.

Last month's Borgata Poker Open winner Vivek Rajkumar is a further 41,700 behind in third, followed by Ryan Fisler (327,500) and Robert Cheung (316,100).

Top women's player Kathy Liebert and online superstar Brian 'SNo0oWMAN' Hawkins are both inside the top ten.

Also returning for day three are Sorel Mizzi (209,200), JC Tran (165,200), Steve Sung (129,000), Erik Seidel (116,800), Lee Markholt (84,100) and Barry Greenstein (64,500).

Chau Giang, Daniel Negreanu, Bill Edler, Dan Heimiller and John Phan were among the big names knocked out of the competition.

A first-place prize of $1,250,352 will go to the winner of the event, which is down by more than $200,000 on what Scott Clements received in 2007.
