Negreanu enters young v old poker player debate

2008-10-20 12:05:15

Daniel Negreanu has given his opinion on whether today's poker players are better than the ones of yesteryear.

In his Full Contact Poker column, the Canadian wrote a response to last week's comments in Doyle Brunson's blog in which the Texas Dolly suggested that individual card sharps were "tougher" several decades ago then they are today.

Brunson claimed he was replying to remarks made by Negreanu and, despite Kid Poker denying that he made any to the contrary, he decided to enter the debate anyway.

"The old school players were just much better poker players, but the new breed of player's knowledge base and fundamentals are far superior," said the four-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder.

One area where Negreanu believes older players are better is in their reading abilities and he stated that he would rather ask Brunson over someone like Tom Dwan if he needed a good tell on someone in a cash game.

Dwan is considered to be one of the finest internet poker players in the world, but he has yet to win a WSOP bracelet, while Brunson has ten.
