90 players left at EPT Budapest

2008-10-29 14:43:40

Some 90 players are left after the first day of Hungary's premier European Poker Tour (EPT) in Budapest.

Out of 540 players who originally registered, 90 now remain, Poker News reports.

Initially the field had been capped at 500 entrants but it was increased to allow for popular demand.

Among the players were World Series of Poker bracelet holders Katja Thater, Thomas Bihl and Annet Obrestad.

Obrestad was leading at the end of the day, the only player to have broken 100,000 in chips for the day.

Arnaud Mattern, 2007 EPT Prague champion, followed her, as well as Sorel Mizzi and Paul Testud.

The event is taking place until November 1st as a 4,350 euro, four-day tournament.

It is being held at the Las Vegas Casino in Budapest.

According to the official website, Hungarians are becoming an "increasing force" in international poker playing, with Denes Kalo having been runner-up twice in last season's EPTs.
