'Team poker' concept to be introduced in Las Vegas

A new team poker concept is set to debut at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas next month, Cardplayer.com has reported.

The first Dream Team poker tournament is set to take place from November 7th-9th.

According to the poker news site, the casino-friendly tournament model allows players to win cash as individuals and as the team.

Each player is awarded a number of points based on what place they are eliminated from the tournament in - for example, a player receives 21 points if they are in 21st place.

Teams of three add up their two best scores and the lowest combined team score wins. In the event of a tie, the third score is used as a tie-breaker.

"Team poker is not a new concept, but getting it out where the tournament is structured in a way that benefited the players and the casino was the most important thing to do," said Daniel Delshad.

He added that the concept can benefit new players who normally wouldn't have joined a tournament, as it gives them the opportunity to get comfortable with poker while being part of a team.

Alanis Morissette is among the artists scheduled to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino next month.
