'All you need is cash' to play poker

2008-10-31 15:27:21

Amateur poker players are not restricted from competition by credentials - all they need is cash to participate, Steve Rosenbloom of the Chicago Tribune has reported.

He asserted that anyone can enter the World Series of Poker (WSP) event at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond, providing they can afford the $150 entry fee and the $5,000 buy-in.

Those with a more limited budget can buy into a $540 single-table satellite at the Horseshoe, which runs before the main event. The winner of this competition is allowed to join the WSP main event when it opens at noon today (October 31st). The circuit championship event today will be followed by two further no-limit Hold'Em games at the weekend.

According to the casino's website, the WSP festivities have been running at the Horseshoe since October 24th and will wrap up on Sunday November 2nd.

Other upcoming events at the casino include a performance by comedians Bill Cosby and Jeff Foxworthy.
