Winston to take part in WSOP main event preliminary

2008-11-05 12:06:58

Roy Winston is set to take part in a special poker tournament on Friday night, just two days before the World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event gets underway in Las Vegas.

The Chip Leader Challenge is being hosted by Dennis Phillips, who heads into the main event as the frontrunner with 26,295,000 chips.

Winston revealed in his Card Player blog that he will be in attendance for the Hard Rock Poker Lounge competition, along with a field of 20 fellow professionals and celebrities.

The tournament will follow a shootout structure and Winston did not go into any details about what prize awaits the winner.

For Phillips, the event may be his last chance to brush up on his poker skills prior to his bid to become the next WSOP champion on Sunday night.

A winner's check worth $9,119,517 - the second largest amount in the history of tournament poker - is up for grabs.
