WSOP finalists have 'mixed feelings' about break

2008-11-06 17:18:17

The November Nine - the finalists in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event - have mixed feelings about the three-month break they've had since play stopped in July.

According to the Canadian Press, Dennis Phillips said he did not want to leave the game behind for the three-month break, but he said that the time off has been a "positive" experience.

Since play ended three months ago, Phillips has enlisted the help of a professional coach to help him improve his game. He has also given more than 140 interviews and done charity work for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, among other organisations.

But Brooklyn-based Ylon Schwartz said that he felt the break was a "bug blunder" and described his time off as "miserable".

He said: "You don't stop the marathon at the Olympics in the 25th mile and give them three months to rest and come back and sprint for a mile. You let them finish and you don't take someone out of their zone."

The finals are set to be held at the Penn & Teller Theatre on November 9th and 10th.
