WSOP final 'will be compelling viewing'

2008-11-07 20:34:38

The final of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) will be "compelling" TV viewing, John Brokopp of the Courier News stated.

Play will resume on Sunday (November 9th) following a break that has been in effect since July 14th when the final nine players emerged in the WSOP Main Event.

Mr Brokopp wrote that this year's final will be "intriguing" due to the fact that it will be televised only hours after the action unfolds - a first for poker.

"Historically, poker has been consumed on a strictly tape-delay basis and usually that delay was pretty long," said WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack.

"So, this year, we decided we would stop play in July when we hit the final nine, take a pause of a few months and bring people back so that the final episode still airs when it would have aired otherwise," he added.

The WSOP Main Event coverage will be condensed into a primetime special on ESPN to air on Tuesday (November 11th) - the same day the $32.3 million prize is awarded.

According to the event's official website, spectators can watch the tournament live at the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas.
