Brunson: Ornstein and Tomko deserved hall of fame spots

2008-11-20 12:08:25

Doyle Brunson has stated that Harry Ornstein and Dewey Tomko both deserved to be enshrined in poker's hall of fame this year.

The Texas Dolly, who is a hall-of-famer himself, wrote in his blog that Ornstein's invention of the hole-card camera alone earned him his spot, while Tomko's prowess on the poker circuit for more than a decade made him a good pick.

"I think Dewey was a worthy choice because in the 80s and early 90s he was a force to be reckoned with in both the cash games and poker tournaments," Brunson commented.

Tomko won his three World Series of Poker bracelets between 1979 and 1984, as well as finishing second in the 1982 main event.

He was still going strong, however, nearly 20 years later, when he was runner-up in the main event again in 2001.

Brunson said that there are several good contenders among the current crop of players to follow Tomko into the hall, although he suggested it would be difficult to say who would get in for certain as "time has a funny way of changing things".
