Negreanu: Today's player is much tougher

2008-11-24 12:01:16

The latter half of poker tournaments, particularly deep-stack events, are much more difficult than they used to be, it has been claimed.

Daniel Negreanu, an advocate of using the small-ball playing strategy in competitions, claimed in his Full Contact Poker blog that many other card sharps are now following suit, making it harder for him to do well once the money-bubble has been breached.

He claimed that even as recently as 2004, when he set the points record for Card Player's player of the year race, deep-stack events were full of people who did not have "any clue at all".

"It used to be much easier to trap those donkeys back then, but today's player is much tougher," Kid Poker remarked.

Negreanu made his comments in relation to reaching the final table of a tournament in Canada over the weekend.

He has already played in several final tables this year, including two at the World Series of Poker.
