Bellagio gears up for the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic

2008-11-27 12:10:23

The Bellagio in Las Vegas has just one day of preparations left before one of the biggest tournament series of the year, the Five-Diamond World Poker Classic, gets underway in its poker room.

Friday November 28th will mark the first day of the three-week long event, which culminates in the $15,000 World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic on December 13th.

Outside of the WPT Championship, the Brunson tournament is traditionally the largest competition on the tour, with Eugene Katchalov picking up $2,482,605 for his victory last year.

Ted Kearly's $1,252,640 runner-up prize was greater than the amount received by winners of nine of the other events during season six.

Other players to have taken down the Five Diamond main event over the years include Joe Hachem (season five), Rehne Pedersen (season four) and Daniel Negreanu (season three), while Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott, Gus Hansen and Dewey Tomko have all made the final table.
