WSOP main event coverage 'did not feature enough hands'

2008-12-01 12:06:49

ESPN's coverage of the 2008 World Series of Poker main event has come in for some criticism from players due to it not featuring enough hands.

Card Player reports that while most players were impressed with how quickly ESPN managed to put together a show after the final table, many were disappointed with the amount of actual poker shown.

The four-hour heads-up between eventual winner Peter Eastgate and Ivan Demidov was reduced to two hands, while less than a tenth of the overall 274 hands were aired.

Mike Matusow, a three-time WSOP bracelet holder, stated: "They just never showed any hands. They just showed everyone's bust-out hand."

"If I was a fan, it'd be a big letdown," he added.

ESPN's coverage has generally been dubbed a success, with viewing figures up markedly on 2007.

Following its broadcast, Daniel Negreanu wrote in his Full Contact Poker blog that the final table was "a home run in all respects".
