Shorr recommends a return to school for young card sharps

2008-12-09 14:26:15

Alabama poker ace Shannon Shorr has recommended that young poker players consider returning to college.

Writing in his blog, the 23-year-old - who went back to school himself at the end of the summer - stated that getting a degree can be worthwhile, even for those who fully intend to continue as professional poker players in the future.

"It's been cool and I think it's worth it - even if you're like me and have no intention of using the degree and are only doing it for self fulfillment," he remarked.

Shorr made the comments as he finished his first semester and claimed he fully intends to return for the next three, even though he does not get to play poker much when he is there.

The Bellagio Cup II winner is travelling to Las Vegas later this month to compete at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic.

He currently lies 16th in Card Player's player of the year competition, but a big win could catapult him up inside the top ten.
