A fortnight to go in the player of the year races

John Phan has just over a fortnight left to hold on to his position as the leader in Card Player magazine's and Bluff magazine's player of the year competitions.
The Razor has looked unbeatable, particularly in Card Player's race, since September, but a big performance from his nearest rival Bertrand Grospellier at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Doyle Brunson Classic Championship next week could see him overtaken in both tables as 2008 draws to a close.
Much of Phan's success this year has come on the WPT, having reached final tables in the Bay 101 Shooting Star main event and the Bellagio Cup IV championship, on top of his victory at the Legends of Poker.
In addition to this, he also had an excellent year at the 2008 World Series of Poker at the Rio in Las Vegas, winning events 29 and 40 to pick up the first and second bracelets of his career.
