Doyle Brunson Classic prize money down on 2007

2008-12-15 11:56:23

The World Poker Tour (WPT) Doyle Brunson Classic has failed to attract as many participants this year as it did in 2007.

A total of 497 turned up to play in the $15,000 buy-in event, which is traditionally one of the biggest on the WPT calendar.

This figure is down by 129 compared to last year's tournament and creates a total prize pool worth just over $7.2 million - more than $2 million less.

As such, the eventual winner will receive $1,538,730 compared to the $2,482,605 received by reigning champion Eugene Katchalov.

It has been an up down season seven for the WPT as far as prize pools are concerned.

While the Bellagio Cup IV was up on season six, the North American Poker Championship, Borgata Poker Open and the Foxwoods World Poker Finals were all down.

This contrasts with the 2008 World Series of Poker and the latest season of the European Poker Tour, both of which experienced record-breaking years.
