Niemela on top after day 1b of the Doyle Brunson Classic

Paul Niemela will go into day two of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Doyle Brunson Classic the chip leader after finishing day 1b with 266,775 in his stack.
Niemela holds 106,775 more than the second best performer on day 1b - Carlos Mortensen - and 88,625 more than day 1a's frontrunner Phil Hellmuth, the official WPT website reports.
Scott Bohlman (155,000) finished the day in third place, followed by Lex Veldhuis (150,000), Liz Lieu (123,000), Mark Teltscher (112,000) and Jean Max Gaspard (110,000).
Victor Ramdin (110,000), Andrew Robl (109,000) and David Pham (99,000) rounded out the top ten.
Other notables returning for day two include David Benyamine (97,000), Allen Cunningham (81,000), Jonathan Little (67,000) and Daniel Negreanu (58,500).
Scotty Nguyen, Sammy Farha and JC Tran were the biggest names to be eliminated.
A final table finish for Pham could be enough to help him retain his Card Player player of the year trophy as he currently lies in second position, less than 700 points behind the leader John Phan.
