Pocket eights spell bad news for Winston

2008-12-17 12:15:42

Roy Winston has revealed that he had a bad run of luck with pocket eights at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Doyle Brunson Classic this week.

The Oracle wrote in his Card Player blog that he lost with the hand three times on day three of the event, which eventually led to him going to the rail in 77th place.

Winston suffered his first hit when his eight-eight lost to nine-nine, followed by defeats to ace-queen and six-six with the same hand.

The result saw him knocked out in the lowest tier of the prize payout structure, giving him a $21,620 return on his $15,000 seat.

Winston has failed to hit the same heights in 2008 as he managed in 2007, when a victory at the WPT Borgata Poker Open helped him to 16th in Card Player's player of the year race.

This year he lies 264th, with his best finish second in event ten of the 2008 Five-Star World Poker Classic.
