Phan: I could have done better

2008-12-24 11:07:41

Card Player's and Bluff Magazine's player of the year (POY) John 'Razor' Phan has admitted that he could have done more towards the end of the season to make sure that he could not be beaten.

Phan told Card Player that he was the leader in competitions on several occasions over the last few months but failed to reach the final table, which led to him feeling a bit nervous at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Doyle Brunson Classic, where there were still a handful of card sharps capable of toppling him.

"The last three months I haven't posted any results," he remarked. "I've come so close. I could have done a lot better."

After winning two World Series of Poker bracelets and a WPT title over the summer, Phan looked set to break Daniel Negreanu's four-year-old POY points record of 8,764, but he did not enjoy a particularly good end to the season and finished on 6,704.
