EPT Caribbean Adventure begins today

2009-01-05 13:14:30

The European Poker Tour (EPT) Caribbean Adventure gets underway today (January 5th) at the Atlantis Casino in the Bahamas.

Official figures for how many people are taking part have yet to be announced, but as of January 4th, approximately 1,100 online players were registered to take part in the $10,000 buy-in, the EPT website states.

This is up from 845 in 2008 and 36 fewer than the total field size last year, meaning that a new record is on the cards.

In 2007, the Caribbean Adventure had a buy-in of $7,800, creating a prize pool worth $8,562,976.

With the new $10,000 buy-in in place, this looks set to rise to at least $11 million, which would be the biggest money pot in EPT history outside of the annual Grand Final in Monte Carlo.

Bertrand Grospellier won last year's tournament, beating Hafiz Khan in the heads-up to pick up $2 million.
