EPT expects record numbers for Deauville event

2009-01-20 12:20:34

The European Poker Tour (EPT) has stated that this week's event in Deauville, France looks set to break its attendance record from three years ago.

On the competition's official website yesterday (January 19th), the EPT revealed over 400 people were registered to take part in the tournament, in touching distance of the 434 card sharps who turned up in 2006.

This year's event gets underway today with a host of big names set to appear, including former EPT titlists Victoria Coren, Bertrand Grospellier and Gavin Griffin.

World Series of Poker bracelet holder Dario Minieri and reigning EPT player of the year Luca Pagano will also be competing, along with EPT regulars Katja Thater and Noah Boeken.

Mats Iremark won the competition the last time it was played, earning €480,000 ($621,000) - significantly less than the $3 million won by Poorya Nazari earlier this month at the EPT Caribbean Adventure.
